Michael EngbergMichael Engberg was a member of the D'ni Restoration Council. For most of its history, he served as the architectural analyst on staff, and assisted Victor Laxman, the chief engineer. Engberg was in charge of passing all structures and Ages through phase four of restoration.

Engberg was born September 9, 1966, in Sacramento, California, and graduated from the University of Southern California with a Master's in Building Science. He was married after that time, and had a daughter named Willow. However, some time before his involvement with the DRC, his wife died in a climbing accident. His first trip to D'ni took place in 1998, and he officially joined the DRC in 1999. He went on sabbatical in 2004, and had a teaching position on the surface for two years. In 2006, he returned to the cavern with his daughter, who became known to the explorers as "Wheely". Wheely was to become friends with another teenaged girl named Rosette Taylor.

In May of 2007, Wheely and Rosette were involved in a structural collapse inside Tokotah II, near the Kahlo Pub. Rosette died immediately, but Wheely was still alive, although injured. There was no space for anyone to climb down to reach her, so they tried lowering a linking book to her. She told them that the book didn't work, and there was a scarred Bahro standing nearby watching her.

When a rescue party had nearly cleared enough rubble to reach the room where Wheely was, the scarred Bahro evidently attacked and killed her. Engberg was devastated, and ran around several residential neighborhoods, calling for Dr. Watson. Not finding him, he linked to a rest house in the Great Shaft, and shortly after that KI contact was lost and he disappeared. He has been missing ever since then.
