When Yeesha sent out the call to explorers to walk the Path of the Hand, Jeff Zandi became an ardent supporter of her cause, as her ideas agreed with many points he'd been in contention with his father Elias over. After Elias died and left the property in the immediate vicinity of the Cleft to him, people began to arrive at there after the Bahro called to their hearts. Jeff started living near the Cleft part-time to guide them into starting the Path of the Hand.

When Jeff is on the property, he lives in a camping trailer. For something to do, he modified another trailer into an off-road vehicle to play with, and can sometimes be found riding it in the desert outside the fence around the volcano area. The modified trailer was compared to a Zamboni because he put the driver's seat on the roof of the vehicle, and that prompted a friend to nickname the rig "the Zandoni".
