My, what a pain transferring a site to a new server is! Thank God for Dreamweaver's ability to search an entire site and do a mass change of links. Otherwise I'd have had to change all of the hard-coded links in something like 650 pages worth of web site by hand. The mind boggles at the amount of labor that would have been.

Anyway, most of the work is done except for updating search engines, sites with reciprocal links, and web rings. I can get back to posting stories now, with assurance that the site won't be blacked out regularly! Yay!!

We have a new author! Benjamin A. Oliver is the author of several well-known comedy stories, and the co-creator (most of the blame belongs to his brother, Daniel R. Oliver) of the ArbyFish, perhaps the most infamous fan fiction support characters ever devised.

Today, we are inaugurating his page with parts 1 & 2 of "Heart of Sugar", Ben's venture into the world of Self-Insert fan fiction. Don't let that throw you off, though; this isn't your standard SI.

Also added today is parts 1 & 2 of "Going At It Like Rabbits!!!", his Ranma ½ / Sailor Moon crossover comedy.

And there's much more to come. This page will be the first time that all of Ben's and Dan's fiction has been hosted on the net in one place, including the short pieces.

As of last Sunday— the sixth— I hit 44 years of age. Funny, I don't feel like I've got one foot in the grave… O_o;;  The saying goes "you're only as old as you feel". Well, in my mind I don't think I ever got much past fourteen; too bad I can't convince the rest of my body of that!

In other news, I just heard recently from Pia Ulloa. She's on break from college and made noises like she might actually pick up her work on her untitled Ranma story. I hope it's true, and she gets a lot of work done in the time she has available. She's one of the people who have been hosted here longest, and it's a shame she doesn't have much time for writing. Plus, she's a real sweetheart, and I'm sorry that I hear from her so infrequently. Ganbatte ne, Pia!

Another year has arrived, and a new update page has been opened. When I look back at all the activity the site saw in 2001, it's really rather amazing to me. I get lots of visitors to the page, and my mailing list has a pretty large number of subscribers, most of whom have stayed with it; hardly anyone has dropped off after signing up. Considering that it's my first try at a newsletter, that's even more surprising than the apparent popularity of the site.

What does the newsletter currently offer? In addition to announcements about upcoming work— when the various authors send me any news, that is— I usually give a brief description of the stories posted that week. The week's stories are also have direct links from the letter. I have a 'trivia' section where I reprint articles I find around the Internet; for example, a recent newsletter had a review of "Noir", and another had a review of the upcoming "Cowboy Bebop" movie. And last but not least, the final section is a listing of anime conventions, listed about three months in advance.

When you get right down to it, though, I'm winging it with the newsletter. So far, no one has really ever written to me to tell me how I'm doing with it, or to give me any suggestions. My only 'feedback' has been the lack of complaints, and the loyalty of the subscribers; kind of a sign that I'm not doing so badly that they want to opt out…

Still, I welcome everyone to try it out, and if you like the newsletter, send me a brief note to let me know!

Latin_D does the editing for that site in cooperation with me, since I only know the few words of Spanish that it's impossible to avoid learning when you live in Southern California.
